Why "how old am I?" is harder than it looks
Subtracting years gets you close. But "34 years, 7 months, 12 days" needs careful handling of leap years, month lengths (February has 28 or 29 days; April has 30; March has 31), and time zones if you care about hours. The age calculator does the calendar math so you don't have to.
Use cases beyond birthdays

Leap years and edge cases
People born on February 29 legitimately only get a "true" birthday every four years. The calculator follows the common convention: in non-leap years, treat February 29 as March 1 for age-transition purposes. The year count increments on Feb 28 in jurisdictions that use that rule, and on March 1 in others — both are documented.
"Date of birth" versus "age"
Some platforms store DOB as a fixed date and compute age on the fly. Others store age as a cached number. The latter goes stale; always recompute from DOB for anything legal or medical. The age calculator returns today's value, so you can re-run anytime.
